Lead World Cup Kranj 2016

The final competition of the Sport Climbing World Cup in Kranj, conducted under the auspices of the International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC), is considered one of the best organized and the most popular among the competitors. At the same time, the organization of a competition on such scale ranks Planinska zveza Slovenije (the Alpine Association of Slovenia) among the largest sports federations in the field of competitive sport, and provides it with the visibility and reputation, both in Slovenia and abroad. On 26 and 27 November you can come in person in Kranj sports hall Zlato polje (Golden field) and loudly encourage Slovenian sport climbing heroines and heroes, as well as other excellent climbers from around the world.

It is inspiring that Slovenian sport climbers are again among the best in the world. Janja Garnbret, the Lead World Champion 2016, and Domen Škofic, fourth at the Lead World Championship in Paris, have this year already stood on the podium of World Cup competitions several times and they even achieved double Slovenian victory at the competitions in Chamonix and Briançon. European Champion, three times overall winner of the Lead World Cup, and multiple winner of the competitions in Kranj, Mina Markovič, has participated only at individual matches this year, but she remains among the best, as demonstrated by her bronze medal at the World Championship. In this season's World Cup finals, Tjaša Kalan and Urban Primožič also successfully performed in lead, so we can again expect a large number of climbers from the Slovenian sport climbing national team competing on home ground.

Qualifications for men will take place on Saturday, 26 November 2016, at 9:00, qualifications for women are scheduled at 14:00, and the semifinal in the Kranj sports hall Zlato polje will be at 20:00. There will be a free entertainment program for children during the qualifications, and the opportunity to shake the hand of your sport climbing role models and ask them for an autograph or a 'selfie'.

The highlight of the Kranj competition will be on Sunday, 27 November 2016, with the finals beginning at 16:00, accompanied by various events in Kranj, including sport climbing challenges for the viewers, a climbing film showing, a special offer of climbing equipment, and a diverse musical backdrop with a live DJ.

The hall will be open one hour before the semi-finals and the finals. A detailed schedule of events will be published in the days before the competition on the website www.worldcupkranj.com.

The success of Slovenian sport climbers is a result of good, systematic and persistent work of the teams, trainers and climbers, and of their passionate dedication and invested effort, so on their home ground they deserve strong support in person.
