Celebrating 50 Years of
LYNYRD SKYNYRD
More than half a century after the release of their highly acclaimed debut album Pronounced ’Leh-’nérd ’Skin-’nérd, Lynyrd Skynyrd remains a legendary name with a devoted fan base spanning multiple generations. Since their first performance in Jacksonville, Florida, in 1973—helping to pioneer Southern rock—the band has delivered countless iconic hits, including Sweet Home Alabama, Free Bird, Simple Man, Call Me The Breeze, Tuesday’s Gone, The Ballad of Curtis Loew, and many more. Few bands have had such a lasting influence in shaping not just a musical genre but an entire way of life. Even devastating setbacks, such as the tragic plane crash that claimed several members, couldn’t erase their legacy.
Former bandmates like Ronnie Van Zant, Gary Rossington, Allen Collins, Steve Gaines, Ed King, Billy Powell, Bob Burns, and Leon Wilkeson—along with others—will forever be remembered as key figures in Lynyrd Skynyrd’s rich and enduring history. Today, the band continues to rock with its current lineup: Johnny Van Zant, Rickey Medlocke, Damon Johnson, Mark "Sparky" Matejka, Michael Cartellone, Keith Christopher, Peter Keys, Carol Chase, and Stacy Michelle. As Johnny Van Zant puts it: “It’s about the legacy of Lynyrd Skynyrd—what the band stands for and what it means to the fans. There’s nothing better than playing a great show with Skynyrd and seeing just how much people love this music.”
With a catalog of over 60 albums, billions of streams, tens of millions of records sold, and the introduction of Hell House Whiskey, Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees Lynyrd Skynyrd remain a cultural icon whose music continues to resonate across generations.
