Hobo Johnson, the stage name of Frank Lopes Jr., is an American artist renowned for his unique fusion of emo rap, hip hop, and spoken word. His music is characterized by raw, narrative-driven lyrics delivered in a distinctive spoken-word style, often interspersed with energetic outbursts and conversational asides for a genre-defying approach that has garnered him a dedicated following and critical acclaim.
Lopes began his music career in 2015, self-releasing his debut album 1994 Toyota Corolla, named after the car he lived in during a challenging period of homelessness. He gained significant attention in 2018 with a viral video submission for NPR's Tiny Desk Contest featuring the song "Peach Scone," which amassed millions of views in a short time and paving the way for successful later releases.
Following a brief hiatus and the disbanding of his backing group, Hobo Johnson returned to the stage in 2023 and releasing new music. His candid exploration of personal and societal themes continues to resonate with audiences, and his rise to fame, propelled by social media and viral content, exemplifies the evolving landscape of the music industry. We’re excited to announce that he’ll be bringing his unique viewpoints and dynamic, heartfelt performance to Slovenia for the first time this July.
