Artist description
I was born on 16th January 1992 in Maribor. My love of performing began when I started dancing and singing in the choir in the seventh grade and joined to the »English student theatre« in high school. Here I was gained my first stage experience due to participation in musicals like »We Will Rock You« and »Feel the Beat«. All musicals were in English language.
Five years ago I finished music school and I have a basic knowledge of music theory. I was playing a violin for 8 years.
At the age of 12, I recorded a demo tape of a song I had written with my friends in the rock band. The tape was hearing by the manager and producer Igor Leonardi from Slovenian National TV. After hearing the tape we got an invitation to perform our original songs on several TV shows. After that I was interested especially in soul, jazz and blues and that is why I joined to the music project called Papir (Paper), four years later. In 2010 Papir released a CD titled »Po viharju« (After the Storm), which was successfully promoted through video and live concerts throughout Slovenia. During that time I also graduated at one of the best high schools in Slovenia, II. gimnazija Maribor.
By the age of 18, I took second place in the TV show »Slovenia’s Got Talent for 2010« and one year later 13th place at the Eurovision Song Contest in Düsseldorf, Germany. After this taste of international acclaim, I recorded my first album, Indigo, in 2011. Half of the songs are in English language and the rest of them in Slovenian. This album has been successfully promoted and it is currently among the ten best-selling albums in Slovenia.
I was nominated for GONG media awards in 2010 and 2011, for female Slovenian of the year, for femme fatale and it was a big honor for me to be among those people. In 2012 I am nominated for most popular singer of the year. In the fall of 2010 and 2011 a few concerts with renowned musicians such as Tony Cetinski, Uroš Perić, Darja Švajger, Nuša Derenda, violinist Stefan Milenković and Grammy nominee guitarist Edin Karamazov were happened. I also sang to Kevin Costner when he visited our country. In 2011 I was representing Slovenia on Eurovision song contest and won first place by jury in semi final and forth place in final.
During these very intensive two years I have been gained a lot of experiences and the various skills associated with singing and life performances. I can tolerate a large stresses and pressures, but I realized that I have to learn much more. Only the natural endowments are not always enough to be successful. I want to maximize my creative and academic potential by studying a unique combination of classical and popular music studies, composition, musicology, and music industry. Since the home environment cannot give me this opportunity, I decided to go in a broad. That is why I have been choosing Rotterdam and Codarts University.
Music is everything to me: a life, a vocation, a pleasure and challenge. I am especially interested in the study of creative practice. I am looking for opportunities to expand my skills in singing in different bands or writing/performing music for film, theatre or multimedia, to improve my team working and communication skills. I want to understand why popular music affected so much our cultures, identities and lives and how the world music industry really works.
Should I attend your school, I would like to resume my own music, with special attention to its popular elements. Writing poetry also figures prominently in my academic and professional goals. The dominant theme of my first CD album collection relies on poems that draw from everyday experience, in order to celebrate the process of giving and taking life, whether literal or figurative.
In terms of a career, I see myself teaching, singing, and having concerts not just in Slovenia but also in abroad.
I am highly aware of the superb reputation of your school, but I hope you will give me the privilege of continuing my education at your institution.
